The Legend of the King's Tree
"Some say kingdoms are built with stone.
Others say they're built with swords.
The oldest records tell a different story."
At the very heart of the Underworld stands the King's Tree.
Long before castles rose from the earth or roads connected the kingdoms, there was only an ancient Hawthorn whose branches stretched toward the heavens while its roots reached deep into the soul of the land.
The oldest stories claim that no one truly planted the tree.
It simply...appeared.
Some believe it grew where hope first took root.
Others whisper it marked the place where the first light pierced the darkness.
No one knows which story is true.
Perhaps both are.

Today, the King's Tree stands as the heart of the Underworld.
Its branches are adorned with lanterns that glow softly each evening, casting warm light across the surrounding cottages, gardens, and winding paths.
Visitors often ask who lights them.
The answer depends on who you ask.
Some say the royal family tends each lantern by hand.
Others insist the lanterns have never needed lighting at all.
The oldest archivists merely smile...and refuse to answer.

The Hawthorn has long been a symbol of protection throughout Celtic folklore, often believed to stand at the threshold between our world and the Otherworld.
That enduring symbolism became one of the inspirations behind The Fae Chronicles, where the King's Tree serves not only as the heart of a kingdom but as a reminder that even in the darkest times, hope can continue to shine.
Like many of the legends that inspired my writing, the truth behind the King's Tree remains wrapped in mystery.
And perhaps that's exactly where some stories belong.
